Child-parent psychotherapy

What is Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP)?

This modality of therapy was developed to treat infants/toddlers from birth-5 y.o. CPP is helpful for children who have been through scary or painful events, such as the loss of a loved one, separation, serious medical procedures, abuse, or violence at home or in the community.

Parent/Caregiver Role in CPP

Young children need parents/caregivers to help them make sense of the stressful experiences that have occurred within the family, learn to cope with challenging negative emotions, and know what to expect in the future.

CPP and Child Development

Research has shown that when stressful events occur during critical developmental stages from birth -5 yo, the child may experience delayed development in cognitive, physical, social/emotional,  and communication domains. CPP supports the child's ability to return to a typical trajectory of development in these crucial stages.
